1st Graders at Inverness Elementary

The Greystone Smile Design team recently visited Inverness Elementary School to discuss oral hygiene for February’s Dental Health Month.  Dawn and Angel spent an entire morning talking with the 1st graders about diet, what to do when you get a loose tooth, and the importance of brushing and flossing.  Dawn is pictured on the right and is a hygienist at GSD.  Angel is a dental assistant and is dressed up as The Tooth Fairy.

Inverness Elementary School

Greystone Smile Design, the office of Dr. Trent Buchanan and Dr. Tom Dudney, is proud to be one of the sponsors for Inverness Elementary School’s 1st Annual EAGLETHON Fun Run. 

The school is encouraging the students to participate in the Fun Run to promote health and exercise.  Proceeds will be used to better the learning environment in the Inverness community.


A New Way to Numb

birmingham alabama dentistIn the dental office, we never mention the “n” word…the one that rhymes with beedle.  If it weren’t for the “beedles,” maybe we dentist would be more popular.  Nobody likes “beedles,” but if we didn’t numb your tooth, we definitely wouldn’t remain friends. 

But what if we could numb your tooth without you even knowing it?  Or, better yet, what if we could do some procedures without the use of “beedles” altogether.

Valentine’s Day – Happy Kissing!

Ahhh…Valentine’s Day.  The time of love, red roses, chocolate hearts, and….kissing!  There’s arguably more kissing on Valentine’s Day than any other day of the year.  The Valentine’s Day gift breakdown shows 65% greeting cards, 38% candy, 32% flowers, and 11% jewelry.  At the end of the day, all the gift giving is for one notable reason – for the eloquent, midnight smooch.

As dentists, we seem to always focus on the negatives.  Don’t eat candy or you’ll get a cavity; don’t brush too hard or your gums will recede; don’t eat ice or you could chip a tooth.  We could talk about the risky business of kissing, like the sharing of harmful bacteria or the transmission of different illnesses.  But not today.  We’ll only explore the positives of the “make out” and discuss ways to “kiss a little longer.”
